Microsoft RODC Read Only Domain Controller

Read Only Domain Controllers A new feature in Windows 2008 is a new type of domain controller the Read-Only Domain Controller known as RODCs. An RODC makes it possible for organizations to easily deploy a domain controller in scenarios where physical security cannot be guaranteed, such as branch office locations, or in scenarios where local storage of all domain passwords is considered a primary threat. The RODC also have copy of the Active Directory (AD) database, but the contents of the replica of the database on the domain controller is read-only and write operations are not supported. It is also important to know that the RODCs do not participate in Active Directory replication in the same way as writable domain controllers. The difference between RODC replication and the multimaster replication model between writable domain controllers is that RODC replication is unidirectional. This means all changes from a writable domain controller are propagated to the RODCs. The resu...

Microsoft revamps logo for first time in 25 years

Image
Microsoft Corp. unveiled its first new logo since 1987, as it prepares to introduce a range of new products, from a new version of Windows to the company’s own touch-screen devices. The logo includes the so-called Segoe font, which is used in Microsoft products and marketing materials, and four colored squares that are “intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products,” says Jeff Hansen General Manager of Brand Strategy at Microsoft. This is Microsoft's fifth logo since Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded the company 37 years ago in 1975. The new logo made its debut on Microsoft's websites, as well as three of its retail stores in Boston, Washington and Seattle. DPM 2010: NEW features and enhancement

Data Protection Manager 2012: New features and enhancements By   Scott Lowe September 30, 2011, 10:46 PM PDT Takeaway:  Scott Lowe highlights what’s new in Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2012, which is now available in beta. At   Westminster College ,   we made the move to Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2010 last fall   and,   with a few caveats, we’ve been very happy with the migration . When it comes to recovery (which is really the whole point of backup), I’ve been extremely impressed at times and, at other times, left scratching my head but still getting the results that I wanted. Here’s a quick roundup of my thoughts on   DPM 2010 : ·          SQL protection and recovery is amazing.   We back up our SQL servers every half hour with DPM. We have had to recover a database in the middle of the day that had become corrupt. From time of discovery of the corruption to the time that we ...

Lenovo Windows 7

In Focus: Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience Program Puts PCs on the Fast Track April 26, 2012 With some of the fastest boot times on the market, Lenovo’s design philosophy is all about quality. April 26, 2012 — Three years ago, in the early days of Windows 7, Microsoft was working with PC makers to help enhance start-up times, sleep mode, battery life and the all-around performance of PCs, and this effort continues today. Lenovo took this initiative one step further: Now in its third generation, the Lenovo Enhanced Experience (EE) has become less of a Microsoft initiative and more of the “secret sauce” behind the world’s second-largest maker of PCs. “At Lenovo, we saw what Microsoft was trying to do, and embraced it,” says Michael Littler, director of Marketing for Lenovo’s Idea Product Group, which develops laptops, tablets and PCs for the consumer market. “We worked hard on the engineering side and achieved some excellent results in the first generation. With that succes...

Microsoft Office For iPad App Coming Soon

Image
Microsoft is working on an Office app for Apple iPad. This should not surprise anyone but I highly doubt their timing of release. The Daily also added that the app will be released in coming weeks and the app suite will feature Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint with editing options as well. Windows On ARM devices will get released only in Q4 2012, Microsoft Office will be one of the key USP of those devices. So, I doubt Microsoft will release the same for rival platform before their own platform alternative is ready for public sale. Anyway, let see how Microsoft plays this out.

Splashtop allows touch screen Windows 8 development using an iPad

Image
Windows 8 developers have a problem testing apps for tablets, given that the vast majority of PCs do not have touch screens.   One touch screen device that has a pretty high penetration is however the iPad, and Splashtop’s Win8  Metro  Testbed allows developers to remotely access their Windows 8 developer machine and try out all major Windows 8 gestures on their iPad. The app supports:     Swipe from the right to view the Charms menu     Swipe from the left to switch apps     Swipe left/right in Internet Explorer to move between pages     Swipe down to bring up additional menus     Swipe down on an item to select it     Pull down from the top to close an app     Swipe slowly from the left to run two apps side-by-side ("snapping")     Swipe from left-and-back to show running apps     Pinch to navigate files, fo...

In general, IT (Information Technology) has brought about significant improvements in Business operations and in the entire human life as whole. Talking about Globalization, IT has not only brought the world closer together, but it has allowed the world’s economy to become a single interdependent system.
